Keyword stuffing is a search engine optimization (SEO) technique that involves overloading a webpage with keywords in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in search engine results.

Keyword stuffing is a relatively old form of online marketing. However, it is still frequently used today. This, while it is a technique that may not always turn out positively for the SEO from a page. Keyword stuffing involves using an excessive amount of keywords. Whenever possible, the keyword is incorporated within a page. This primarily concerns popular search terms that are relevant to the website. Very occasionally, keywords are even used that don't actually fit the respective page. But what exactly is keyword stuffing? And why can this have a very negative impact on the position within Google

Keyword stuffing is an SEO tactic that involves overloading a webpage's content with keywords in a way that is unnatural and makes it difficult for users to read. It's often done by repeating keywords excessively, using irrelevant keywords, or hiding keywords from users in the page's code or design. Search engines penalize websites that engage in keyword stuffing, as it's considered a black-hat SEO technique. 

It is obviously impossible for Google to review every website individually. This happens through so-called algorithms. The algorithms do very well on specific search terms. Terms that are searched for often. If these terms are also relevant to a certain page, then it will logically also be in the search results to end up. When one word appears frequently on a page, that page will be assigned a higher position based on that single keyword. 

This naturally seems to have many advantages to filling every page Keywords to stuff. However, nothing could be further from the truth. If keyword stuffing is applied incorrectly, it can be hugely detrimental to your search engine ranking. 

Negative impact on SEO 

keyword stuffing also belongs to Black Hat SEO. We are talking about this term when tricks are deliberately used to rank higher in search results. In this case, there is no longer any organic search traffic. Visitors are (sometimes entirely wrongly) drawn to a page. As a result, the highest quality sites no longer end up at the top, but sites that don't really deserve it. Precisely to maintain the quality of search results, there have been many search algorithm updates in recent years. 

Google penalizes pages that use keyword stuffing. Furthermore, since 2013, they have become much more effective at detecting such pages. As a result, the search results have truly been swept clean, and many pages that previously ranked well have sunk to the bottom of the lists.
